Public Service comp songs rereleased on vinyl

Update (1/4/2012): It appears that there is some controversy surrounding the contract from 1981 that exists between the band and Smoke 7. The Bad Religion Page has no desire to be in the middle of this, so until this has been cleared up we're going to take down the "bootleg" statement.

Update: Apparently Smoke 7 (or Puke 'n Vomit) don't have rights to sell the 7" or the merch. Smoke 7 was only entitled to release the songs in 1981, and that's it. Bootleg confirmed!

Completely out of the blue, the songs that Bad Religion provided for the 1981 Public Service compilation have been rereleased on 7" vinyl. Check it out in the Puke 'n Vomit online shop. It's not mentioned there, but apparently only 500 have been made!

Songs on this 7": Bad Religion, Slaves and Drastic Actions.

Notice the odd crossbuster...

Accompanying the 7", a bunch of merch can also be found in the same online shop. They have t-shirts, hoodies, patches, buttons and several stickers.

2011 in retrospect

Marty here. With only a couple of days left in this year it's about time to publish our own "looking-back-at-2011" thing. So here goes...

In February we launched the new and improved Discography, which now contains ~550 different versions of Bad Religion releases.
In February another awesome new section on the site was introduced: the Collectibles! In total 475 items can currently be found here. Mostly t-shirts, but also some very rare stuff such as this recently added golden Stranger Than Fiction record:

In August the long awaited Media section went live. Already it contains 286 interviews (even dating back to 1981!), 55 articles and 155 reviews. Thanks to wrong planet and Jesse for gathering all this pieces of Bad Religion history!
This year we all shouted approximately 186,650 times.
We now have ~4400 followers on Twitter and ~400 people who "like" us on Facebook.
2011 was also the year of the BR Page t-shirts. In April we started taking pre-orders and a month later the shirts were sent to their new owners. So far 78 shirts have been sold (without making profit, by the way!), which means that we still have some left.

After a number of years in which the infamous "Bad Religion day" (November 5) went by pretty much unnoticed, torbar organized a 44 hour streaming of BR related music and interviews, starting from November 5th in New Zealand. The last song being played was Sorrow. To listen to the live stream, a website was put up: badreligionday.com.
n1ckb0n3z felt a bit awkward with his new member title from last year so he got to merge it with the older one, which made him feel more at ease in his adult life in the forums.

Because this year there was no new album, 2011 was a less "successful" year in terms of numbers. But for a non-album year still better than 2009.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the BR Page team for all the work they put into this site and making it what it is today! And, of course, a big thanks goes out to all our visitors; both those who speak up and those who remain silent. Without you there wouldn't be a Bad Religion Page.

So what will 2012 bring?

A new layout for the site in which the main improvement will be the move of the menu from the left to the top.
Audio and video interviews in the Media section and the option for everyone to submit stuff.
Updating The Answer with a huge amount of facts from the interviews and articles that were found this year.
    A new Bad Religion album!!

On behalf of our very own Graffinius (in normal life known as Michael) and his family, a merry BR Christmas!

Pre-order Amnesty's Bob Dylan tribute album!

Update 4: According to the tracklisting details that have been posted on Amnesty International's website Bad Religion has recorded Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue". Apparently the album is scheduled to be released (both the physical four disc record and digital version) in North America on January 24. The album will be released internationally on January 30.

Update 3: Amnesty International finally posted some more details about the album on their website. The official release date is still unknown, but the album can be pre-ordered starting December 6th.

Update 2: Apparently Jay found out how that Lucinda Williams duet rumor got started. Check it out below. So even the song everyone now thinks BR is doing is incorrect. So what do we know more than we did last June? The title and a release date! Yahey!

Update: We don't know who started this rumor, but it appears that BR is NOT teaming up with Lucinda Williams. A whole lot of other sites are also running this (incorrect) news. Thank God for the intertubes.

Last June Bad Religion recorded a cover song for an upcoming Bob Dylan tribute album 'Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International'. Not a whole lot was known at that point, but now more details have surfaced.
Bad Religion has covered the song 'Tryin' To Get To Heaven'. The album is expected to be released on November 22. Although several sources mention early next year. Only time and a *real* source will tell.

Anarchy Evolution Out On Paperback!

Greg’s book ‘Anarchy Evolution: Faith, Science, and Bad Religion in a World Without God’ is now available in paperback

Celebrated punk rock icons Bad Religion continue performing to fans throughout the world in support of their acclaimed new album The Dissent Of Man, while the group’s multitalented singer has his renowned book Anarchy Evolution published in paperback.

Greg Graffin’s book Anarchy Evolution: Faith, Science, and Bad Religion in a World Without God is a timely and provocative look at the collision between religion and science by a founding member of Bad Religion. Most of the world knows Graffin as lead singer of the highly influential Los Angeles punk band Bad Religion. What many don’t know is that Graffin also received a doctorate from Cornell University and has taught evolution at UCLA, and now at Cornell.

In Anarchy Evolution, Graffin, with Steve Olson, weds his experiences in punk culture and the academic world, and explores the deep connection between art, religion, and science – in a book that’s equal parts memoir and manifesto.

As an adolescent growing up when “drugs, sex, and trouble could be had on any given night,” Graffin discovered that science provided a framework through which he could make sense of the world. In this provocative and personal book, Graffin describes his own coming of age as an artist in the early L.A. punk scene, as well as how punk rock helped form his naturalist worldview on questions involving God, science, and human meaning.

Providing fresh and nuanced insights into the long-standing debate about atheism and the human condition, Anarchy Evolution is a book for anyone who has ever wondered if God really exists.

Critical Acclaim For Anarchy Evolution:

A worldview eloquently expressed. – Chicago Tribune

[Graffin] explains how evolution can be a guide to life. – Scientific American

Bucking authority and the religious views of his family, Graffin explains how he has developed a personal philosophy that celebrates the power of nature. – Nature

Anarchy Evolution might not encourage obedient confidence in scientists anymore than it discourages such comfort in religious leaders. But if it’s free thought and meta-aware intellectual inquiry that Graffin’s aiming to champion instead, mission accomplished. – Popmatters

Bad Religion to play at The Reason Rally

What's The Reason Rally, you might ask. Well, here's what the About page on reasonrally.org has to say:

Across America, in every city, every town, and every school, secularism is on the rise. Whether people call themselves atheists, agnostics, secular Humanists, or any of the other terms used to describe their god-free lifestyle, secularism is coming out of the closet. According to a recent Harris Poll, we are the fastest growing theological segment – in all fifty states.

But as we emerge from hiding, we meet hostility. Nationwide, secular people are among the most despised in the country. Our politicians ignore us, our society berates us, and we are blamed for everything from 9/11 to earthquakes.

The Reason Rally is a movement-wide event sponsored by the country’s major secular organizations. The intent is to unify, energize, and embolden secular people nationwide, while dispelling the negative opinions held by so much of American Society… and having a damn good time doing it!

On March 24, 2012, from 10:00AM – 4:00PM, nontheists from all corners of the nation will descend on Washington, D.C. en masse to deliver the good news: “We’re huge, we’re everywhere, and we’re growing.”

It will be the largest secular event in world history. There will be music, comedy, great speakers, and lots of fun… and it’s free!

So there you have it. A free one-hour performance of Bad Religion... AND, of course, a chance to see speakers such as Richard Dawkins, James Randi and more.

Australian Tour officially cancelled and a show in Peru has been added!

Today, Bad Religion officially confirmed that the Australian shows of the Southern Continents Tour have been canceled. The band will try to get back to Australia as soon as possible if they manage to work out a new tour with a different promoter!
The cancellation of the Australian leg has apparently no effect on the show in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Also, a new South American date has been added to the tour, being Lima, Peru. The exact date is still unknown, but rumors are it's going to be on Friday October 7th.

Extra tidbit: Australian fans seem to have bad luck. This is the second time a Bad Religion tour has been cancelled. The first time was in 2002 during The Process of Belief Tour.

We want our fans in Australia to know that we will be back. The tour was canceled due to promoter decisions in which we had no involvement, nor were we consulted. Within only weeks of our departure to Australia, we were told the shows were canceled. We intend to work with a different promoter and come back as soon as possible.

Some of you might remember a corner on the previous thebrpage (< October 2008) where a couple of dozen transcripts of interviews and articles could be found - quite often information from these interviews was used in The Answer.

It took almost three years, over 180 magazine scans, numerous sleepless nights and 34 cans of Mountain Dew and it's still far from finished. However, we believe it's finished enough to go live anyway!

Australian Soundwave Revolution festival cancelled!

Earlier today Soundwave announced the cancellation of all five Revolution festivals that were going to take place on September 24 'til October 3.

Here's the exact text that can be found on soundwaverevolution.com:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of the Revolution Festival.
Many of the festival bands will still be coming to Australia in that time period and team up to bring some very special shows. There will include multi band/mini festival line-ups in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. We will be announcing these events in the next 7 days.

Tickets purchased online will be refunded automatically as soon as it can be processed. If you purchased from an outlet, refunds will be available from point of purchase."

Soundwave Revolution promoter AJ Maddah had this to say on a radio station earlier today:

“We were scheduled to make a second announcement on the first of August – we had our festival co-headliner on that announcement... Their circumstances changed at the last minute and they had to pull out and unfortunately we don’t have enough time to replace them and we didn’t really want to go ahead with an incomplete line-up.
We could have taken the option of linking through with the line-up as we have now – it would have obviously still been a much better financial outcome for us than to go through the road we have – but we just didn’t want to put an inferior product on the market."

If more details start to surface about the replacement shows/mini festival and in particular Bad Religion, we'll let you know right here!
It's already been said that the new shows will be on the same dates or very close to it in all 5 cities.

Bad Religion Announce Southern Continents Tour

Celebrated punk rock icons Bad Religion have announced tour dates in the southern hemisphere in support of their acclaimed new album The Dissent Of Man. The influential Southern California band will be taking their thought provoking high energy sound on a twelve city tour beginning in Jakarta Indonesia on September 20th and ending in Rio de Janeiro on October 15th. In between, the group will travel to Australia for the Soundwave Festival.

This will be the first time Bad Religion has toured the Indonesian archipelago and singer (and current Ivy League professor) Greg Graffin is particularly excited to be following the footsteps of renowned explorer, naturalist and fellow evolutionist Alfred Russel Wallace to this remarkable biogeographic province. “Although I’m taking time away from my lectures in evolution this fall, it will be a truly inspirational journey,” Graffin explains. “I’m going to be thinking of A.R. Wallace when I’m looking out at all those Indonesian punk fans.”

In addition, Bad Religion’s supremely talented drummer Brooks Wackerman is currently gracing the cover of the August issue of world leading drum magazine, Modern Drummer. As the magazine describes, “Playing with economy and craft, using his double kick drum to propel the band’s scorching songs, Wackerman turns punk drumming into art.” The issue features a profile on Brooks and an extensive interview with him on topics ranging from his evolving musical tastes, pre-performance yoga and how he plays at such a frantic pace without ever seeming to tire.

Bad Religion Tour Dates:

9/20/11 Jakarta, Indonesia
9/24/11 Brisbane, Australia

Bad Religion covering Bob Dylan for Amnesty International

According to Brett Bad Religion is currently recording a Bob Dylan cover for an upcoming compilation record for Amnesty International. The recording is taking place in the Sonora Recorders in Los Angeles and is produced by Brett and Greg.

Apperently Rise Against also recorded a song - Ballad of Hollis Brown - for this compilation to mark Bob Dylan's 70th birthday and Amnesty International's 50th anniversary.

A similair compilation called Instant Karma has been done in 2007, which featured John Lennon covers, to raise money for Amnesty Internation to help victims of the civil war in Darfur, Sudan.

Currently there are no more details about this compilation or which song Bad Religion is covering. What song do you hope or think they've chosen?
